Metals conservator
We are the UK’s leading specialist in the conservation of monumental brasses, combining our skill base for stone conservation with those of the treatment of brasses learnt from the late William Lack, with a branch of the firm operating as Skillington Lack. We have a long history of involvement with aspects of the treatment of metal statuary and ecclesiastical metalwork.
We are seeking an experienced metals conservator to play a role in developing this side of the business.
You will:
• Have a good background understanding of metal conservation and the science and chemistry underpinning this.
• Have a conservation qualification and at least 2-3 years’ experience post qualifying; or have at least five years’ practical experience in metals conservation.
• Enjoy problem solving and working on unique and varied projects.
• If not ICON ACR accredited then be willing to engage in the accreditation pathway.
• Work both on site and in the studio. Sometimes site work involves short periods working away but we manage this to suit individual’s needs.
• Have sufficient language and computer literacy to be able to produce quality treatment proposals and records.
• Be a team player and willing to engage with the development of this part of our business.
• Have a current driving licence.
The above is not exhaustive and can develop organically to suit the candidate.
Hours are expected to be 40 hours per week but with some flexibility, and we would consider a part-time or reduced hours application. Overtime rates apply as do travel-time pay when on site, and working away allowances.
We actively support on-going training and CPD.
We are an equal opportunities employer and encourage diversity and inclusion.
Salary negotiable but we would expect it to fall within the range £28,000 - £35,000 full time equivalent depending on experience and benefits package.
